The ARC Raiders Toxic Trail quest is a short investigation mission that takes you into the dangerous swamp around Dam Battlegrounds. If you are preparing for the mission and want to improve your overall equipment options, you can also buy ARC Raiders BluePrints to expand your crafting choices. A Toxic Trail continues the water contamination storyline involving Shani and asks you to investigate the origin of the toxic barrels that threatened Speranza's water supply. Although the objectives are straightforward, the swamp can make navigation difficult, especially when other Raiders are nearby.
A Toxic Trail becomes available through Shani after progressing through the earlier contamination-related quests. The mission takes place entirely around the Water Treatment Control area on Dam Battlegrounds. Once you accept it, your first objective is to return to the water intake below the Water Treatment Control building.
This is not a completely new location. Players who completed the earlier contamination investigation may recognize the area because it is connected to the toxic barrel discovered previously. When you reach the intake, look around the contaminated water and the nearby barrel. Getting close enough should update the objective automatically.
After investigating the water intake, the quest directs you toward the swamp to discover where the barrel came from. This is where the mission can become confusing because the objective does not provide a precise route.
From the water intake, move through the swamp and follow the water toward the nearby area where a partially submerged truck can be found. The vehicle is loaded with additional barrels, making it the important clue connected to the contamination. Because the swamp has vegetation and uneven visibility, take your time and scan the surroundings rather than rushing directly forward.
The location is relatively close to the original water intake, so there is no need to travel across the entire Dam Battlegrounds map. Keeping your route compact also reduces the amount of time you spend exposed to other players.
Once you locate the truck, interact with it to take a photograph. This is an objective-specific interaction, so you do not need to manually take a normal screenshot. After completing the photo prompt, the mission will move to the final investigation step.
The truck is important because it provides evidence that the contamination was not an accidental environmental problem. Its position and cargo point toward deliberate sabotage and give Shani a stronger lead to investigate.
The final objective requires you to search the truck for evidence about the saboteur. Interact with the appropriate area of the vehicle to complete the investigation. One especially useful discovery is the Spaceport Warehouse Key, which can be valuable for a later raid and connects this quest to the follow-up storyline.
Once the investigation is complete, A Toxic Trail is finished. You can then focus on extracting safely or continue looting if the area appears secure. Since the swamp can attract other Raiders, extracting immediately is often the safer choice after obtaining the key.
Completing A Toxic Trail rewards a Tactical Mk. 2 Augment, three Ziplines, three Pulse Mines, and three Gas Mines. More importantly, the investigation leads into The Stench of Corruption, which moves the storyline to Spaceport.
Overall, A Toxic Trail is less about combat and more about efficient movement, observation, and extraction discipline. Knowing the water intake, swamp truck, and investigation sequence beforehand makes the quest much easier. If you want to prepare for future raids and crafting requirements, keeping useful cheap ARC Coins available can also make your wider progression smoother.
