The DAFT Visa originates from a historic treaty between the Netherlands and the United States, created to foster economic cooperation and strengthen bilateral relations. Thanks to this agreement, U.S. citizens enjoy a streamlined path to Dutch residency by establishing a business or working as independent professionals in the Netherlands.
To qualify for the DAFT Visa, applicants must:
Hold U.S. citizenship.
Intend to establish and operate a business in the Netherlands.
Register the business with the Dutch Chamber of Commerce (KvK).
Deposit a minimum investment capital of €4,500 in a Dutch bank account.
Unlike many other visa categories, the DAFT Visa does not require extensive proof of business viability, making it a practical and attractive option for American entrepreneurs.
Simplified Process: Reduced documentation and relatively low financial thresholds.
Family Residency: Spouses and dependent children can also apply for residence permits.
Pathway to Long-Term Stay: After five years of legal residence, applicants may qualify for permanent residence or Dutch citizenship.
Entrepreneurial Freedom: Run a business, freelance, or consult without the limitations of traditional work permits.
Register your business with the Chamber of Commerce (KvK).
Open a Dutch bank account and deposit the required capital.
Submit your application to the Immigration and Naturalisation Service (IND).
Obtain a residence permit, typically valid for two years and renewable as long as requirements are met.
