Hi everyone,
I’m considering upgrading my kitchen countertops and keep hearing about solid surface options like Corian. I like that they’re non-porous and seem easy to maintain, but I’m not sure how they hold up over time compared to granite or quartz. Do they scratch or stain easily?
How are they for heat resistance and durability in a busy kitchen? Also, what’s the cost range for installation and repairs if needed? Any personal experiences, tips, or recommendations would be really helpful before I make a decision.
Thanks!
Hi.
I’ve used solid surface countertops like Corian for a few years, and here’s what I’ve noticed: they’re non-porous and very easy to clean, which is great for everyday maintenance. Solid surface kitchen countertops do scratch more easily than granite or quartz, but minor scratches can usually be sanded out.
They are moderately heat resistant; hot pans can cause damage, so always use trivets. In terms of durability, they hold up well if you avoid cutting directly on them and protect from heavy impact. Installation costs typically range from $40 to $85 per sq. ft., and repairs are possible but sometimes require a professional for bigger chips or burns.
