The 66th Berlin International Film Festival came to a close on Saturday night with very little attention paid to the event in China. Though Chinese film Crosscurrent won a Silver Bear Yankees Gary Sanchez Jersey , the news did little to stir Chinese moviegoers' interest in this year's festival.
Besides the fact that none of the featured films at the Berlin festival have been shown in China, a lack of famous stars at the event is another reason behind the lack of interest in China. Compare this to the Cannes festival, where every year the films may remain unfamiliar to Chinese audiences, but the stars and clothing on the red carpet always contribute to a huge buzz on Chinese social media.

The biggest award - The Golden Bear for Best Film - went to Fire at Sea, a documentary about refugees. A cold reception
Berlin film festival was once regarded as a "lucky place" for Chinese films and filmmakers - it was a place where Chinese films had a chance to become known to the world. He added, however, that many really good films are reluctant to be labeled as LGBT films.
"I guess films in the Berlin Teddy Award section are those that failed at Cannes and therefore decided to take part in Berlin's less competitive section."
Wang told the Global Times that he thinks films at the Berlin festival have been rather common over the past two years.

"Therefore many qualified works are seen in other sections."
