"The date of 1 June 2020 was intended to provide a common date for all systems that are currently out of session or will be out of session in the next week when the NCHSAA Summer Regulations would start to apply. It is not intended to supersede any order from the governor, state or local governing body, nor any restrictions on schools or LEA. To be specific, the NCHSAA does not recommend or imply that any sport's summer workouts will begin on June 1 as we remain under the guidance and regulations of the governor and the health advisors who advise him.
The NCHSAA fall sports season is still scheduled to start on Saturday, August 1, NFLscreenHD with the first official fall contests allowed to start on Monday, August 17th. In the coming months, both NCHSAA and NFHS will issue updates in accordance with state and national developments.
"One of the challenges to solve this fall's crystal ball of high school sports and activities is the uncertainty of the virus spread as states start reopening this month," Niehoff said. "The NFHS will continue to work permanently with its Sports Medicine Advisory Committee to provide the most up-to - date information."
